Earlier this summer, I have vowed to read more books and I am happy to say that even though I am not reading as much as I would like to, I am reading more than I usually would in college. Though I have read some books in between my last book review, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I have decided to write a review on a very popular craze, The Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games is written by Suzanne Collins and this book finally provides an interesting storyline away from magic and vampires. I will not give too much away, but I will make some references to about what I feel the book is like. The Hunger Games is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which there is no states or cities, but everything is broken up into districts. There are thirteen districts and the Capitol. The Capitol is the centralized government that leads all the other districts. However, the districts rebelled because they were being oppressed and unfortunately they lost. Through the chaos, District Thirteen was wiped out and there lay only Districts One through Twelve. Furthermore, in order to remind the Districts who is in control
of their little lives, the Capitol created the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games gathers two "tributes" from each district, boy and girl, to enter the Capitol into a battle arena, in which an all out battle royale is taken place. These twenty-four tributes from the ages of 12 to 18, I believe, must fight to the death until only one is proven to be victor. Everything is recorded live as entertainment for the Capitol. And so, it is during this dreadful, inhumane society do we first meet our protagonist, Katniss Everdeen.

Now on to my review of this trilogy. I have to say that it is once again a nice change from magic and vampire books. Personally, I do not think this trilogy is the next Harry Potter series, but I do believe that this book is a lot more interesting than the Twilight series. The invention of the Hunger Games is pure genius to me and I give props to Suzanne Collins for coming up with an elaborate and intricate new world with new rules and traditions.

However, there are some flaws I see with this book. First, is the writing of this book. The writing of this book is very simple and probably not beyond a middle school reading level. However, I feel as though Suzanne Collins noticed the criticism she was getting with her writing and started using a lot more complex vocabulary in her last book, Mockingjay, which is fine but with the way she writes it feels as though those words are forced into the sentences instead of flowing with the sentences. Second, the ending of this trilogy is way too rushed and I had to re-read parts of the last book several times to understand what the heck is going on. Then also, this ending felt a little too Candide by Voltaire for me. I don't want to give the ending away so if you read it, I think you'll understand what I am saying. Lastly, I feel as though Suzanne Collins was too focused on plot twists instead of the character development in the last two books. There are some holes in the plot that doesn't make sense to me, but for the sake of finishing the book or for the sake of the plot twist making sense it needs to be there.

Overall, I feel as though the Hunger Games is a great book and is very interesting. You can't help but fall in love with some of these characters and empathize with these characters. However, as a trilogy, I do not know if I would give it such great marks, but the way the book is written, you have no choice but to read on. Therefore, I recommend reading this book and please drop a comment if you agree or disagree with my views on this book.

Also, I can't wait for the movie to come up in the summer of 2012. Here is the trailer~

"Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to...to the Capitol they don't own me. The place is called 'Hong Kong Saigon Seafood Harbor' and is in the city of Sunnyvale.

Anyways, it is usually packed with people and the wait can be as long as an hour. I suggest arriving a bit early for the lunch to decrease the wait time outside the door.

When you are first seated, you will order drinks. I personally always get jasmine tea. It warms you up before the big meal and the sweet fragrant of the tea is just refreshing.

As Bear have described in the previous blog, waitresses walk around with their carts full of dim sum and other dishes. I tried to take several pictures, but since I just grab whatever seems delicious, the actual name of each dishes are a mystery for me.
The last picture is the chewy sesame-seed-red-bean-paste ball, so I call it. Awesome desert after a perfect meal.

If you love Asian food, this is a lovely place to visit. If you have not tried, my suggestion is to go for seafood dim sum, because the spice used in other types can be a bit overwhelming for "beginners." :]
I'll try harder to be more intune with my posts so that you guys know what's up. However, I would like to give props to Bunny for keeping up with the posts with a lot of interesting movies and books. As you all may have seen, we have decided to change our pseudonym from Mellon to Bunny and from Rawr to Bear after long consideration and administrative discussions.

So today's post is going to be very interesting because I had the pleasure of visiting Nor Cal around the San Jose area.

This was one of the views I had as I was coming up north from Los Angeles. It was really amazing and just serene.

Soon after, I was able to enjoy the nice environment of a park called the Memorial Park in Cupertino. This park apparently hold a lot of festivals and a Diwali Festival of Lights was happening while I was there. It was actually pretty cool and this park was definitely the best parks I've ever been to. Then shortly I was able to eat Hawaiian BBQ nearby, but I couldn't get any pictures of it sadly. However, all I can say is that the macaroni salad was bomb! It is one of the places I really want to revisit again and eat some BBQ.

Afterwards, I was able to enjoy the Festival and got a dessert called Fallooda (I think that's how it is spelled), which was a rose flavored ice cream drink. The taste was really good but inside the drink there were some sort of noodle strings in the drink, which honestly I could've done without. Then after we were able to go to Honeyberry and try some buns. Let me tell you if heaven was made out of buns they would use these to make heaven.

This is what it's called and it's a very humble store. Apparently, there are two or maybe even more stores that are open for business. However, this store is part of the original Honeyberry chain and it was just so, so delicious.

This was roti bun and it was just so good. It's so good there is a buttery coating inside and it's just mouth-watering

After we came here, we were able to go get a toffee flavored coffee, which was very refreshing. Soon after, I checked in my hotel and relaxed. Then it was time for dinner and we went to a Vietnamese restaurant to try something than Pho. I forget the name of the dish but let me tell you that not only is this dish tasty but way filling. It's pretty much only vegetables but after a few bites in, you magically become full.

<img style="display: block; Honestly, if you never had dim sum... you are leading a very sad life... GO GET SOME! For people who do not know how dim sum works, you sit down on a table and instead of ordering from a menu, you have waiters/waitresses walking around with carts and you pick the ones you want to eat from the cart. They then tabulate what you get onto a card, which you turn in at the end of you meal to determine your check.

This was probably the shrimp dim sum

This one was definitely one of my favorites.

I have finally finished this book which I started a while ago.

I enjoyed The Joy Luck Club and The Hundred Secret Senses, both by Amy Tan, so when an article said that Lisa See is the next Amy Tan, I had to read her work.

I realized that there will be a movie based on this novel. Since I never like watching the movie first before reading the original book, it was my intention to finish the book before the movie was released. It seems like the movie did not do quite well in the box office. Regardless, I plan on watching the movie sooner or later.

The book's main theme is the friendship between two Chinese women in 19th century. Mainly due to the setting of the novel, it contains vast amount of cultural tradition, customs and idealism in 19th century China. Growing up in relatively traditional Asian family, I was able to comprehend many of the idealism and traditions. However, many non-Asian-culture-friendly readers may not understand certain aspects or tilt their head about
eccentric customs. What all readers should understand, in my opinion,
is that most Asian tradition is based on spiritual symbolism and
patriarchal lineage.

The book mostly deals with women tradition and stories. One of those that Lisa See chose to elaborate was the foot binding. The book describes that based on the size and the shape of the bound foot, women can achieve happy life or can be thrown into a pit of misery. The process of foot binding requires breaking bones in each foot to shape them into small, beautiful and perfect "golden lilies." The smaller your bound feet are, the better family you will marry into for better status and life. Based on the book, main characters, Lily and Snow Flower's feet were perfect in shape and size to ensure their happiness.

In case you wonder, like I did, what bound feet looks like or how small they become, I add a picture.

When I visited Hong Kong when I was very young, I remember seeing a small pair of shoes of display in a museum. Please, correct me if I am wrong, but those shoes were to be put on young girls to prevent their feet from growing any bigger. The reason as written on the description panel was that it was to prevent any young women from running away either from their future husband or family. Lisa See repeatedly states throughout the book that women are worthless and is considered nothing more than bearers of children.

Another women tradition mentioned and utilized is nu shu, women's secret writing. In the author's note, Lisa See explains her study and journey to discover and understand the words and songs women used to express themselves. Women in "ancient" China did not have much right to meddle with the "outside realm of men" and were expected to sit in upstairs chambers quietly. Since they were not allowed to be educated or learn "men's writing," women invented women's secret writing, nu shu, to be kept hidden from men's knowledge. It is this nu shu that Snow Flower and Lily write on their secret fan, symbol of their everlasting friendship.

Besides unusual traditions and customs, the journey of two laotong, or old sames, continues, for better or worse, as their lives goes on, changes and comes to an end.

To be honest, I could not hold my tears toward the end of the novel and I believe it is because I saw myself in Lily and Snow Flower. We need and aspire someone to love and someone who will love us unconditionally. Maybe you will find a piece of yourself in Lily or Snow Flower.

Well, now the wait for the movie to be released on DVD!! :]

"When a girl, obey your father; when a wife, obey your husband; when a widow, obey your son. But my mother-in-law taught me another axiom one day, when she was aggravated with her husband: "Obey, obey, obey, then do what you want.""

After watching The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, I found a link to this movie. I heard about the first sequel being bad. I actually have it on my DVD rack, but never had the chance to watch it. When I saw the link, I thought, why not.

Although Cinderella is the most popular and famous Disney character of all, I personally am not so fond of it. Maybe it is because she is so helpless and portrays the image that a woman's life solely depends on the guy she meets. I know that the first Cinderella movie was made in 1950, but this sequel was made in 2007, way after Ariel and Belle came along. Maybe that is why I expected Cinderella to be more active and independent, seeking some personal development.

Well, the movie did the exact opposite.

Here goes my very sarcastic summary and review of the movie.

The movie starts with Fairy Godmother trying to throw a nice dinner party(?) for the newly wedded couple. In the middle of her usual 'Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," she somehow manages to toss the wand. Yea, because she is that old and have shaky hands. And guess what, one of the sisters, Anastasia picks up the wand and bring it home.

Lady Tremaine: "Oh yes, the wand!! I'm the ultimate villain now!!!!"
Sisters: "Yay~"

Lady Tremaine: "Anastasia, since you brought the wand, I will let you get married to the prince."
(Here, she is being reasonable and kind to let Anastasia be the one instead of Drizella, because she is the one who found the wand.)

Cinderella: "You can't do that. Prince will know that I am the one he wants to marry as soon as he sees me. And my shoe size is 4 and 1/2."
(She is being very confident that her beauty captured the prince's heart entirely. She is implying that she shall marry no one but the prince.)

Cinderella: "Sister, let me handle this with this wand our mother stole from my fairy godmother. Obviously, you have no right to have happily ever after because I will get married to the prince and be a princess."

Cinderella: "Now I finally will have Prince Charming!! I knew it would end like this."
Prince: "You are so beautiful...unlike your ugly sister that I did not feel anything by touching hands. I will marry you though I didn't even know your name two minutes ago."
(Here, if you look carefully in the picture, Cinderella is smirking. As if to say, I've won the battle b***h. And also, you can tell Prince Charming obviously wants her as a trophy wife.)

Well, at the end, Prince Charming and Cinderella get married and live happily ever after again. One question about the picture below: I thought Cinderella was the main character in the movie? Why did she turn her head to the right to kiss? She should have turned left to show more of her face? I don't know. I'm weird.

I understand that the whole theme is supposed to be "true love is the greatest thing of all." But what I don't understand is, why does Cinderella have to act like a gold digger? And other thing, why did Disney have to draw her as a blonde with blue eyes? I guess the original movie was indeed made in 1950.

In my view, her sister Anastasia is more genuine and considerate. She believes in true love and have a heart to yield and wish Cinderella the happiness. From what I have read, the Cinderella II is about Anastasia finding her true love. I am kind of glad that I watched this sequel first, because it would be more chronologically correct.

I have read this line from somewhere (it is not exactly how it was worded):
Rich, smart and good-looking men do not want girls with pretty face, sexy body and an empty brain. They would rather get married to smart, ugly girls and spend a small part of their fortune to make them beautiful. You can hide and improve your looks, but an empty brain cannot be hidden in any way.

What I am saying is, if you dream about fairy tale and the prince coming to rescue you from all misery of life, you probably won't get it. It is not likely to happen in real life, anyways. Why do you think Disney and other TV shows make so much money out of "happily ever after"?

My final comment is, I am just glad that Ariel and Belle came along to change the image and role of heroines, and hope that the trend continues.

And here is one thing that Cinderella got right in the entire movie (there is a reason why 'fantasy' is called 'fantasy').

"I've always dreamed, that my life could be like a fairy tale, a perfect fantasy.

But it was nothing more than a dream."

Wondering around YouTube, you can find a lot of "weird" stuff. Anyways.

I love corny Disney movies. I love their princess stories and fairy tales. What I really love, however, is not how they meet their Prince, fall in love and live happily ever after. What I really enjoy watching is their life. What really goes on besides the pursuit of true love.

Well, until today, I never realized that this prequel to one of my favorite Disney movies was even made. I was so excited and started watching right away!!....although I really shouldn't have....

The movie starts when all princesses were only little kids. Queen Athena who is King Triton's wife and Ariel's mother appears in the movie. She looks very much like grown-up Ariel, except for the hair and tail color, I guess.

Here are the baby mermaid princesses!!! But I have one question: how did brownish-haired King and auburn-haired Queen have children with seven different hair colors?? Hm...maybe it's the fish thing??

Anyways, this is what they grew up to be. You can see more of each sister's personality and character in this movie, which I enjoyed a lot. I think they are all kinda cute. :]

I didn't realize that they have rainbow color coded tails.... Now that I
think about the tail color, both King and Queen's tails were deep
blue..... Only Ariel and Aquata appear reasonable to be their daughters. Maybe
other five different merman unknowingly fertilized eggs that Queen laid? They are
fish, after all. (Sorry, nerd joke)

By the way, do you know what their names are?(hint: all names start with 'A')

Highlight to reveal the answer: from the left, in the grown-up version, Arista, Attina, Adella, Ariel, Alana, Andrina, and Aquata.

Anyways, what is the fun without one bad person? Her name is Marina Del Rey. Her tail is purple and so is her hair and outfit. Well, her hair...kinda can change colors depending on what she feels like. You will understand her hair secret if you watch the movie. :]

Obviously, Marina was jealous that Ariel got to have some fantastic scenes like this in the original movie:

So as a diva she is, she had to have a dramatic "I'm on a rock with my mouth open and the peacock tail made out of water is behind me" moment.

Another new character in this movie: the green blob(?) massaging Marina is Benjamin. He is a manatee. Well, my favorite little mermaid character has been, undoubtedly, Ariel. After watching this prequel, now cute green Benjamin is my new favorite.

Oh my gosh, look at that round body and cute eyes..... The voice actor did a wonderful job of portraying his character.

And this is Benjamin in real life... The tail looks exactly the same as in the movie.

Anyways, this movie is really great. I kind of wished that they added in more stories, like how Ariel got to meet Scuttle or how she started to have interest in the human world, etc. But overall, the movie is well-made and fun. Now I need to go watch The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.

After thought: Now that I watched the prequel, I wonder if they can add in Benjamin to the other movies as well.... He makes the movie so much cuter and better!! Oh, and he kindly gives us what the main lesson in the movie was. :]

There is a small area behind the house. My grandma was visiting my house because we moved, and she took charge to transform the land into fertile vegetable garden. She basically took care of everything. Now that she has gone back, I water them, sort and organize them, pull out weeds, talk and sing to them. It is quite fun work.

At the beginning, since the quality of the soil was so bad, we had to add a lot of fertilized soil. After pouring and mixing soil, we kind of sectioned the area to plant different vegetables.

We only planted seeds. No baby plants were used. We bought lettuce, tomato, bell pepper, broccoli, sweet basil and perilla(a leaf of perilla, which is kind of another species of sesame plant whose leaves are edible vegetable). We planted those seeds. Well, more like we "sprinkled" them. No one thought that all those seeds would actually sprout and grow, I guess.

My grandma loves mango, so we had a box of mango from Costco. I thought, 'oh well why not?'So the mango seeds were saved to be planted. The melon seeds from the melon fruit were saved, as well.

It has been about a month since the seeds were planted. Here are some pictures of the garden now.

The lettuce section. Since we simply "sprinkled" the seeds instead of sowing them individually, it is quite crowded. We already plucked and ate some of the bigger leaves and they were delicious. :]

The basil. I planted them in this pot that says, 'Basil' on its side. Apparently I put too many seeds so I had to transplant some of them. It is still a bit crowded though.....
This is the perilla plant. They are also crowded. I need to separate and plant them in a nicely organized way. In case you do not know what these are, perilla leaves are used mostly in Asian foods. One example is that you use these leaves, along with lettuce, to wrap the Korean Barbeque. Mmm.... Hungry.....
I started growing avocados as well, from the seed. I planted them but it will take a very long time for them to come out of their hard shell. One of the avocado seeds are being germinated in water, as I have seen in many YouTube videos. No progress yet, but I will post how it is doing when something happens.

Anyways, it is really fun watering them every evening and observing them growing. It is kind of exciting when you realize they have grown or started producing fruits.

Besides these vegetable and fruit plants, I do have some flowering plants. I recently sow Aubrieta seeds in a beautiful flower-shaped pot. My peace lily and orchids are a bit sad because I have been putting so much effort into vegetables and fruits. I gave my mini rose, which I got as a gift a while ago, some rose plant food today, hoping it would have enough energy to make flower buds again.

Hm... I actually didn't realize that I had so much plants in my care.....

Regardless, with some time for watering and lots of love, I hope these plants grow to be healthy and gorgeous.

I'm not saying it is bad to vocalize your thoughts. Saying things out loud can assure and remind you of the current goal and task you should focus on. However, it is very easy to be caught up in the words themselves and not realize that they are merely empty self-satisfaction.

Let's say there is this guy named Bob. He has a test coming up next month. His friends ask him to go to a movie and he responds, "I can't go 'cause I need to study for this exam." He stays home and watches TV. Next week, his parents want him to join them to go grocery shopping and he replies, "I can't go 'cause I need to study for this exam." He remains home and memorize some vocabulary for the day. One day, he wakes up late in the morning. As he feeds his cute pooch, he murmurs, "I'm sorry I can't take you out for a walk. I have the exam coming up." He goes to the kitchen to get the food and start watching TV shows he missed on his computer.

Ok. Now, what do you think about Bob? I mean, he says that he can't do all these because he needs to study. Is he studying hard enough? Well, I don't think I can agree. He is not utilizing the time wisely enough. Even if he went to the park with the dog, he would have enough time to study. It may just be more efficient to take a walk, shower, and start studying with fresh feeling, instead of stuffing down his stomach and giving into food coma.

Well, so, those excuses for not doing something for the exam do not really make sense at all. He stayed home to study but ended up not studying. Why is that?

In my opinion, most people with this problem tend to view the thought of studying, for example, as if it counts for studying hours. Basically they assume that they studied just because they thought about studying. I am not saying that people do it intentionally. Regardless, this type of behavior is unhealthy for the active, happy life.

There may be a way to prevent this. Micro-planning. Before you go to sleep at night, take out your planner and write down what you will be doing for tomorrow in 30 minute increments. You need to make sure to write down everything that will happen tomorrow. However, do not make a plan that is impossible to keep. You need to know your ability and limit. When you wake up in the morning, check the planner. Every half an hour, check the planner for the tasks you should be doing.

Here is an example. Let's say Bob planned to study from 2-6pm tomorrow. He writes down Math for 2-4pm and English for 4-6pm. He opens the Math book he will be studying and decides to finish Chapter 3 tomorrow. He writes, "2-2:30pm Math page 43-50, 2:30-3pm Math page 51-60, 3-4pm Math Chapter test 3 and review." The next day, as he studies Math, he realizes that he is not able to finish the test and review in an hour. He only finishes the test and move onto studying English. After dinner, using the time scheduled as 'free time,' Bob finishes the review promptly and enjoys watching TV peacefully.

Doesn't that sound nice? Watching TV peacefully knowing that you have done every task for the day? Even if Bob had test next month, he is able to use his time wisely and relax fully after his study.

Micro-planning should also be accompanied by Macro-planning. Basically you are picturing the general layout of a month at the beginning of each month. It helps you guide through the month and help you keep focused on what is important and imminent.

For Bob, since the exam is next month, he would write something like, "Study Math everyday except Mondays and Fridays. Study English everyday except Tuesdays and Sundays. Memorize 20 vocabulary everyday. Take Wilson out for a walk every Saturday mornings. No going out with friends except 15th (Susan's Birthday)."

With this, Bob will have some exercise taking the pooch out to the park. He will be able to organize his studying schedule. He will not have to give excuses every time. One task should not be an excuse for not doing another task.

We are given only 24 hours a day. It is up to us to use that time wisely. Some people use 24 hours like 12 hours, and some use 24 hours as if 48 hours had passed. Using the given time efficiently is the most difficult and the most rewarding task of all.

Let's live life to the fullest: stop talking and start doing!
I felt bad that Tofu was being kept in the apartment with almost no form of exercise except chasing his own tail or throwing around his dolls. Therefore, I decided to give him a little treat and take him out to a day in the dog park. Surprisingly, there are not many dog parks near my area and the nearest one I went to was not so good. So, on Sunday I found a park that was about 25 minutes away from my house called Runyon Canyon Park.

I went to this Runyon Canyon Park only to find that the parking here is impossible. There is no designated parking for the dog park or any park enthusiasts. After about a good 15 minutes of searching for parking, I had parked. Unfortunately, this guy couldn't wait and went poopy in my car and I shall not disclose the picture because it is just disturbing. So, after I parked and cleaned up his poop, we walked to the entrance of the park.

Now at this entrance, there was no sign that said, "Welcome to Runyon Canyon Dog Park." Instead, all I see is a dirt road going uphill. Therefore, Tofu and I hiked up this trail until I finally saw a sign that said, "Off-Leash Area," but there was no fence and it was just dirt with a trail leading again upward. I was so confused, but it said no dog leash and so I unleash Tofu wondering what is going on. After a few seconds, I realize that this isn't a dog park but it was a hike trail where dogs could be unleashed to follow their trainers. So, though I was wearing sandals and had no hiking material, Tofu and I decided to hike for about half an hour and come back. It was great opportunity for him to be unleashed and still follow me. We were still weary of other dogs as they are way bigger than he is. Yet, he enjoyed his freedom in the blazing sun and that made me happy as well.
This was my 3rd visit to Vegas after I turned 21 and it has always been a blast. It's not about the drinking, clubbing, or gambling that makes going to Vegas really fun (even though it definitely helps) but it's about the people and the atmosphere that Vegas creates. Therefore, if you ever have a chance you should always go there at least once after you turn 21.

I went with one of my good friends, John, and we stayed at his hotel called the M Resort. The M is a four star hotel with great food and the newest slot machines. However, a downside to this resort is that it is 10 minutes off the Vegas strip, so if you want to get into the Vegas mood and see bunch of people walking down the streets of Vegas with drinks flying around everywhere then you should think about different hotel.

On the first day, we drove in and we started off right away with the slot machines while we were waiting for our rooms to be ready. Then around 4 we went to the pool for a quick swim and let me tell you it was great because it was 102 degrees outside. After that we played some more slots and then it was the long awaited M resort buffet. This buffet has one of the greatest food ever and also the best beer.
Then afterward, I played some blackjack and then slept for the night. The next day, we just had some Jack in the Box and went to Serendipity. Now Serendipity has the best frozen hot chocolate ever located in front of Caesar's Palace. They also have a great food too, which I tried on my last trip to Vegas.

Overall, I didn't make any profit but it was great vacation. There are a lot more things to do in Vegas, such as shopping or catching a show (I personally recommend Love). It's just a fun place to be and I hope you can go sometime soon as well.
It is kind of casual, 1950s-inspired restaurant that serves burgers, shakes, and many other wide range of good eats. If you are a San Jose Sharks fan, this place is for you.

The people are very friendly and the food is great.

This is the "Blue Hawaiian" Pineapple Bacon Burger. The name pretty much says it all. I made mine a meal combo with a side of sweet potato fries and a soda.

Currently, Peggy Sue Restaurant is having a promotion that you can get the burger combo meal with a price of a burger every Wednesday. I am not sure how long this would last, but regardless, the burger is pretty big and filling.

It seems like they have two locations in San Jose. Visit their website if you are interested.
But weirdly enough, I hardly visited this place. I love pastries and good quality bread. Well, maybe because I've been trying to avoid anything that would make me feel guilty in the midst of my pathetic effort to lose weight. It is true that losing weight should be more about working out and exercising than starving my appetite, but being conscious and controlling the diet can show you some fast results.

Enough of irrelevant stories.

I only ordered what I could finish, so it is not much.

This is an iced latte. I got it for FREE cuz I signed up for the myPanera program on my last visit.
This is Pecan Roll and Bear Claw. The Peacan roll is great and all, but the hardened sugar/syrup can stick to your teeth pretty badly. The bear claw, the one on the back that I cut into impatiently, is good as well.
For example, my trip to Vegas, Disneyland, Colorado, or even how I finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, but I have decided that I shall do another Tofu entry because he's just darn too cute.

I feel really bad because I feel like I've been neglecting his needs and I really should take him to the vet for his check up. However, even though I may not be home because of the work I do, my brother and grandmother take good care of him. Even though, my grandma wants me to give him away, she has fallen for the innocent face he creates when he knows that he's done something wrong.

Well, I have decided this past Sunday to take him to a park, where he can just be out in the sun and have fun. We went to a nearby park called Pan Pacific Park and just walked around the huge park. We met with couple of dogs and they sniffed each other, so they can get acquainted. It was just a really great time but after an hour of walking we had to call it quits because the weather is just way too hot. By the end of the day, his tongue stuck out as long as his body, but I know he enjoyed the time out in the sun. As a dog owner, I should take him out more often and I feel bad that I can't because of the living situation in my home. However, I'm going to try to take him out at least once a week so that he can just enjoy the sun and have a breath of fresh air.

Now, time for pictures :]

Sorry I've been so MIA, but I was just busy studying (yes, I know during the summer). However, studying isn't my life and there are lot of other activities I enjoy participating in, which includes watching t.v. and sleeping, but I also really enjoy reading for pleasure. I may have mentioned before that during my college years that there was just so little time to read for fun because of all the school studying and activities, but now that I have graduated for about a month now there is no excuse for me to not read.

Recently, I feel as though reading is something that a lot of people miss out on. With the age of technology, we have new types of media that overshadows reading such as television, movies, and video games. I have younger brother who is about seven years younger than I am and he absolutely loathes to read any type of book. He would rather starve than read a book, and I find this a little sad. When I was growing up, I did my share of reading but since both of my parents were immigrants, they couldn't help me increase my reading skills. So, many of my friends would talk about books that I had no idea about. I felt left out and I fell behind in my English classes. However, the younger generation has no desire to read, and they would rather divulge in their iPads or PS3's than pick up a book that really stimulates and open one's mind.

We even now have Amazon Kindle's and Barnes and Noble Nook's that sort of replaces books, and now we read electronically. I am not saying that I am against these devices because I too own a Kindle. Yet, I feel as though nothing beats having the actual book in front of you, turning the pages one by one, feeling the paper run through your fingers, and most of all counting how many pages you have till you finish the entire book.

The book I have finished recently is called, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." I know I am a bit late in reading this book, but I finished it nevertheless, and I would say that this book is quite interesting and fun. This book includes mystery, action, romance, and much more. After reading half the book, I couldn't put it down and had to keep turning the page until I finished the whole book. Even after reading the book I wanted to keep turning the pages that weren't there because it was just so intense and fun. However, some downside to the book is that the beginning is really slow and you don't get to the main point of the story until about 100 or a 150 pages into the book. Also, maybe because the English version is a translated version from Sweden, the phrases can be a little primitive. Furthermore, the author Stieg Larsson, submitted this book after his death so, I don't think he had much time to revise his mistakes or expressions, anyways.

Other than that, this 480 page book is definitely a thriller that I recommend to other people who are interested in corruption and the downfall of perverted men. The ending is both satisfying, yet leaves you with yearning for more, which then you can turn to the sequel, "The Girl who Played with Fire." Have fun.
Don't Tell Me!: The NPR news quiz show, the host, Peter Sagal, said something very interesting. Even though the host did not mean it to be serious, he said, "Things don't work out the way you want, but it's how we respond to that adversity that defines us." As I was reflecting upon this statement I realized how true this remark is. In life, things will never go the way you plan them to be no matter how carefully you map everything out, but when we are faced with challenges do we give up or do we move head on? These difficulties and obstacles are the hardest times in our life but it is also the greatest lessons we'll ever learn in our lives.

This week I have disappointed a very special person to me, and I am reflecting on my mistake and this saying very much. I messed up big time and I keep messing up but I want to make things better and right. I am sorry and I do regret my actions. I know it's corny but if you are reading this I just want to say I love you and I want to keep growing and learning with you.

On a lighter note, I thought I would post pictures of my dog because that's what I felt like doing for a long time. I feel bad he's been cooped up in my new apartment for a few days because we are not allowed to have dogs. So, I thought I should share some pictures and past pictures of my good but devlish dog, Tofu.
Tofu doesn't really socialize with other dogs but he loves sniffing around and exploring his surroundings :]
Tofu is also a very lazy dog and loves to sleep on soft things like a fleece or a blanket.... bad dog....

I went up to Berkeley with my family in the morning. Busy day doing this and that, but what would life be without some food :]

This place is called "Crepevine" and serves various types of crepes from savory to sweet in addition to pasta, sandwiches, and salads, the usual boring stuff.

We went for lunch a bit before noon. My brother tried to order pasta, but found out that they only serve pasta after 5pm.

I always just get water for my beverage, but today I wanted something different. So I ordered the mango iced tea.

It wasn't sweetened, so I added some splenda.

Anyways, the people were very nice at getting you what you need. They asked if we needed plates, got us more ketchup and coffee swiftly and did not bother us all that much.

When our food came out, I was yelling, "Don't Eat!! Don't Eat!!!" Here are those pictures I took before the food disappeared into our stomach :]

After graduating from college I took a good look at myself and was not happy at where I was. I'll tell you about some of the few commodities that have been driving my life. Sugar, late-night snacks, television, couch, and my bed drive my life currently and I don't like it. For the people out there who are okay with these items driving your life, I congratulate you but as for myself I not only want to change but I am determined to change. All of my college life, I made excuses saying that there wasn't enough time because I had to study for midterms or finals but now that I am done with college I should have no excuses. I'll give you a list of "resolutions" that I want to change and the reasons why I think it is important to change them.

1. Diet and Exercise - People say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that long time ago being fat was considered beautiful. However, times have changed being fat is not okay and worse of all it is detrimental to one's health. I am not saying that one should be so skinny that their bones are showing but maintaining a healthy weight is important not only to your body but also to your mind. Therefore, it is good to stay off those sodas and fatty foods and to go running or other forms of exercise.

2. Reading and Studying - It is important to keep your mind sharp and agile. As we grow older, we should be able to hold more intelligent conversations with our peers and increase our brain capacity. Reading opens our mind to new ideas and creative thought processes. I know school is out but it would be nice to finally read the books that you want to read and study the material that you are interested in. Invest in your future with intelligence.

3. Sleep early - Every since high school, my sleep schedule has always been on and off. I would usually sleep at 2 or 3 and wake up around 9 or 10. Usually I would only have 4-6 hours of sleep a day and when it would get crazy I wouldn't even be awake. I realized that sleep is a very important segment in our lifestyle and the best way to utilize sleep and our energy is too sleep early and wake up early. It is best to get to sleep by 11 P.M. and wake up no later than 8 A.M. It is important that the average person gets up to at least 7 hours of sleep and no more than 10 hours of sleep a day. Sleep deprivation can cause memory loss, poor work performance, and even hallucinations.

4. Pick up a hobby/skill - Whether it be playing the guitar or piano, sports, or even sewing, it is important to learn a new skill or have a hobby to help you relax and enjoy life. Hobbies can also be helpful for your future and keep life a little bit more interesting. Live life to the fullest without any regrets.

These are the main goals I want to change in my life not only for the summer but through my life. I know there are many other resolutions to think about, but I didn't want to make the entry too long. Therefore, for the few viewers we may have or if you happened to stop by our blog and read this entry you can leave a comment about what you think would be an important resolution to change in your life and why. Oh and more thing before this entry comes to a close is above all else keep the people you love close and cherish their love because one day it may just be too late.

"Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams."

Oh, by the way, I feel as though I've been leaving too many depressing entries, so I hope this video makes you people feel better~
Noooo not the edible tofu well even though technically he can be edible (sorry bad joke c[:), but I'm talking about my Half Chihuahua, Tofu.

He was giving me quite a trouble today before we left because he kept wanting to come over to the driver's side of the seat to be on my lap and so I had to yell, "No!" to him and he was very sad. Awww...

However, all in all he is a good dog and mostly a lazy dog. The question is how long can I keep him with my family? Hopefully, as long as forever, but we shall see. I myself graduated from a university and now out in the "real" world. However, no matter where you graduated from, whether it be from preschool, high school, or college, we graduated because we learned enough to move on with our lives. Graduation is supposed to be a joyous time and in the end you can call it a happy ending. Yet, when I graduated, more than it being jubilant it was sort of empty and a little scary because in every ending there is a new beginning.

New beginnings are scary because we are so uncertain of what might happen and how unpredictable the future may be. The bottom line is - we are scared of failure. The online dictionary definition of failure is the nonperformance of something due, required, or expected. We are scared of letting other people down but most of all we are scared of letting ourselves and our aspirations down. However, as we all know, the future will become the present and we as human beings will get through any storm and what we saw as failures we see them as experiences or lessons. We fail all the time but failure makes us stronger and it is what we do with those failures that can make us succeed or plunge into despair. We have made it this far and as long as you find happiness in your own way, you have already succeeded.

Though I wish J.K. Rowling, the author of one of my favorite pastime books, were at my graduation for our commencement speech, her speech at Harvard University still resonates in my heart. I hope this inspires everyone that there is always a brighter tomorrow if you make it to be.

J.K. It is uncertain whether these claims are true or not. But seriously, who cares? Our mission in life is to live it to the fullest regardless.
Between the world's ends, I say, let's live without regrets.
